Kilimanjaro Company Review - Steve's 60th Birthday

Many people choose to climb Kilimanjaro to mark a special occasion, and so when Steve contacted us about climbing Africa’s highest mountain to celebrate his 60th Birthday on, we were delighted to assist!

Steve and five of his friends were keen to climb the extended 8-Day Lemosho Route, and wisely requested that we add an extra night in Arusha prior to the start of their expedition so that they had plenty of time to prepare for their journey to the Roof of Africa, and not have to worry about luggage delays!

While Steve wanted to climb Kili to mark his milestone birthday, he also used the opportunity to raise funds for the Njombe Project, a charity that improves the lives of orphaned children in Tanzania.

Thankfully, all six guys made it to Uhuru Peak successfully, making Steve’s 60th Birthday very special indeed.  Here’s an overview of what Steve has to say about his trip…

We were all really pleased with the trip which went well without any snags.

The flights all on time, John collected us on time and delivered us to Planet Lodges through the dark and dusty roads. We didn’t see one drop of rain in the whole period but the dust was everywhere. Jonas gave us a detailed brief at the hotel the following day and we were impressed by the professional way in which he conducted himself.

The following morning the pick-up was on time and in every event we never had to wait for “Africa time!”  Once we had weighed all the kit and met Angel, we moved to the Lemosho gate from Londorossi. The climb started well with a great surprise with the lunch set up.  On the climb the crew were super always helpful and meeting our every need especially the singing and dancing at the end of every day led by Frank and Safi. Every day merged into the other as we made our way towards Kosovo camp with outstanding food and great banter with every one of the team. Hudson the chef delivered two birthday cakes at high altitude without an oven.  It was amazing the high quality of food that he produced with the small amount of produce and cooking facilities.

On the whole a great trip that was well organised and of a good quality when compared to others on the mountain.

Jamie, another member of the crew also sent us a kind email.

I’d just like to let you know, we all had an amazing time on the mountain with the team. We were very well looked after, plus they were great fun to hike with. To round it off they did get us all to the top as well!! The whole trip was a great experience for all.

Thanks for putting it all together, I’ll certainly be recommending Kilimanjaro Company.

Great job, Thank you
